STUDENT AND LIFELONG LEARNING
NEWSWELL is proud to partner with ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, widely recognized as one of the nation’s premier professional journalism programs, which has received international acclaim for its innovative “teaching hospital” education model. Rooted in the time-honored values that characterize its namesake — accuracy, responsibility, integrity — the school fosters journalistic excellence and ethics in both the classroom and in its hands-on learning experiences that fully immerse students in the practice of journalism and related fields.
Cronkite students work as interns with our local editors as master teachers and can get university credit for their efforts. Cronkite classes and students help local newsrooms with projects. Expert faculty assist with research. Our news sites publish student work from Cronkite News and the national reporting projects based at Cronkite, including the prestigious Carnegie-Knight News21 initiative.

OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS THE uNIVERSITY
As well as partnering with the Cronkite School, NEWSWELL engages with schools and centers across the university.
We work with renowned subject-matter experts and their students on issues vital to the sustainability of local news: evolving technology, accessibility, transparency, trust, misinformation, diversifying revenue and consumer engagement.
Currently, we’re working with the Global Security Initiative, Center on Narrative, Disinformation and Strategic Influence, to research disinformation in local news. Students in the ASU Artificial Intelligence Cloud Innovation Center are developing AI solutions to speed newspaper production.
LEARNING ISN't JUST FOR STUDENTS
We believe trusted news and information can and should lead to lifelong learning. Those who follow local news learn with every story. NEWSWELL will go further, providing mini-classes and quizzes on news topics to deepen knowledge of the subject. We’ll connect news to research for further exploration. We’ll offer in-person and virtual events in our communities and go deep on topics covered by our local newsrooms and important to our readers.
